Discover trends, patterns, and stories hidden within the data inside the Cambridge Structural Database

Explore and learn more about the contents of the Cambridge Structural Database through this collection of interactive charts and visualisations. Rather than viewing the data in static tables, you can use these charts to uncover trends, compare different areas, and gain new insights into what is held within the CSD.

Feel free to hover over and click on data points for additional detail. This page complements the CSD Statistics page which provides key headline figures and official summary metrics for the database.

The data for these visualisations were generated using the CSD Python API and are updated periodically to reflect the latest contents of the database. Last updated: August 2026

Please note: Some charts classify structures into multiple categories. For example, in the Chemistry over time functional race chart, a single structure may contain more than one functional group and therefore be counted in multiple categories. As a result, the total number represented in these charts may exceed the total number of structures in the CSD.
