Scientific Community
Thousands of scientists around the world make an impact with CSD data and software.
The Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) has been curated from community contributions since 1965, and now a global network of scientists use it every day to discover, develop, and advance science. As a non-profit organisation, our mission is to advance structural science for the public benefit — and that includes supporting the scientific community to do great work by maintaining and curating this data and providing tools to make it more usable.
Here you can find resources, services, software, events, and information to help you use the world’s structural science data in the CSD to support your work.
Training
Learn how to harness the world’s molecular structure data to advance your research. Suitable for those new to the CSD, or anybody wanting to brush up their skills. Choose from our free online courses, live virtual workshops, or PDF example exercises.

Our Research
We are an active research centre, regularly publishing papers in structural and data science. We also partner with industry to develop new techniques and tools to directly address their commercial needs.
CCDC For the Community
Access and Deposit Structures
View the world’s collection of small-molecule organic and metal-organic crystal structures, curated since 1965 from the literature, direct deposition, as well as PhD theses, patents, and more.
Securely store your own data and ensure its usable by the global scientific community by depositing it in the CSD.
Free Software and Services
Our free software supports crystallographers and chemistry educators.
View, edit, check, and prepare .cif files of crystallography data, deposit into the CSD, or prepare images for a publication.
Educators can explore real-life 3D molecular structures to demonstrate concepts like chirality, geometry, space groups, and more. We even have a selection of lesson plans and worksheets to help.
