The past, the present, the future
We are delighted to announce that today we have launched our new logo as part of our plans to refresh our visual identity.
CCDC is now in its 54th year since its establishment in 1965. Since then we have continued to develop as an organisation and feel very proud to be part of such a great community. You might then ask why an organisation such as CCDC, which has built up such brand recognition within the community over the last 54 years, would decide to change the way they are identified? Well, as part of the rapid growth of the Cambridge Structural Database, marked in particular by the recent addition of the one millionth structure, we are seeing increasingly diverse sets of data being deposited which presents great opportunity for new areas of research outside of the current community.
The world of structural chemistry is immense after all, there is so much more great data we can collate and therefore so much more we can offer the whole structural science community. Our mission is to reach these scientists, encourage them to deposit their data, grow the database to 2, 5, 10 million structures and more, and build awareness of the great advantages of being able to access such a large data set to help advance research. To achieve this, we need a brand identity that is flexible, timeless and can be used across many channels, especially in this rapidly developing digital age. We also want to bring our visual identity in line with the intelligent software and expertise that makes the CCDC such a valuable resource for scientists around the globe.
We believe that our new logo and overall visual identity will help us to achieve this as we enter 2020 and beyond!
You might also have seen the new icons on our website, you should start seeing these in your software in our 3rd release later this year, so keep an eye out!
You will notice more updates throughout the year as we work to improve user experience across our software and website as we continue to put the community at the heart of what we do.
For any questions about these changes please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
