Changes to Supported Platforms for the next CSDS release

We have been busy in the last few weeks updating the systems that we use to build our software to take advantage of several new technologies that will allow us to make some improvements to our future software releases.

These improvements have a requirement to build our software on newer computers, which in turn changes the operating systems that our software will be able to run on. This was anticipated with our last CSD System release and there we gave advance warning that it would be the last to support some older operating systems and that is indeed the case. The good news, though, is that we are now able to confirm support for newer systems as well.

Here is a list of our new supported operating systems for the 2013 release of the CSD System:

Windows: XP, Vista, 7 and 8

Linux: RedHat 5 & 6, Debian 5 & 6, SuSe 11, CentOS 5 & 6

Mac OS X: 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8

Compared to the current release, this means we lose support for RedHat 4, Debian 4, SuSe 10, OS X 10.4 and 10.5. However, we are increasing our supported platforms list to include Windows 8, CentOS 5 & 6 and OS X 10.8.

There is still plenty of time until the current CSD System release will expire. However if these changes in supported platforms will affect your use of the CSD System please consider either upgrading your systems or moving to an alternative platform. If you do anticipate any issues with these changes, please contact us at support@ccdc.cam.ac.uk as soon as possible and we will be happy to discuss possible solutions with you.
