White Paper: Interactive 3D Chemistry Teaching Resources
Increase Understanding and Engagement with University Level Chemistry Students
Many core concepts, vital to students building a solid foundation in chemistry, must be considered in 3D. Topics like chirality, space groups, and symmetry have to be pictured in 3D to fully grasp the idea and its affects.
Here we provide a reference guide of core chemistry concepts that can be taught with the aid of interactive, 3D resources from The CCDC, plus resources to do so.
The paper includes:
- Why computer-based resources can enhance student engagement and understanding
- What The Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) is, and how it is already used in teaching worldwide
- Links to resources to teach and/or demonstrate ~40 chemistry concepts, from aromaticity to VSEPR
Who should read:
- Lecturers and Professors teaching Chemistry at university level
- Educators teaching related sciences (pharmacy, biology etc) at university level
As a non-profit dedicated to advancing structural science, including through education, we hope this will connect educators with useful resources.
