Cambridge Festival 2026
What is a crystal? Which crystals are hiding in plain sight in our homes? Why isn’t old chocolate as good as new chocolate?
Saturday 21 March 10:00–16:00
Department of Chemistry, Todd-Hamied Room, Lensfield Road, CB2 1EW
Free entrance
If you’re curious to discover the answers to these and many more questions, get ready for an adventure into the wonders of crystals and structural chemistry!
In Crystal Adventures, you can look forward to impressive visualisations, fun hands-on guided activities, tasty examples, and games for the whole family.
You’ll also learn about chocolate, sugar crystals, and how medicines work. Along the way, you’ll become a crystal explorer and a model builder, and you’ll get to use Lego too! And of course, there will be plenty of opportunities for discovery.
These activities are designed for learners aged 8+ and guided by the curators of the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), exploring over one million crystal structures through engaging, family-friendly discovery.
