Dr Steve Maginn returned to the CCDC in 2013 as Director of User Services, having previously worked at the Centre from 1998-2002. In this role, he and his team is responsible for supporting and developing all of the user communities of the CCDC.

Steve graduated with a PhD in chemistry from the University of Liverpool in 1989, specialising in crystallographic technique development carried out at the Daresbury Laboratory’s Synchrotron Radiation Source (SRS). From 1989-1993 he worked in Professor Roger Davey’s team at ICI, applying crystallography to problem-solving across the company’s then very wide product base. In 1993, Steve moved to Cambridge for the first time to join Molecular Simulations Inc. (MSI – now part of Accelrys), before returning in 1996 to the Daresbury Laboratory to set up and run a contract research service using the SRS.

Between his two spells at the CCDC, Steve initially set up and ran the office in the UK for Chemical Computing Group (CCG), producers and suppliers of the MOE software system for drug discovery applications, later becoming responsible for managing all their European operations.
