The U.S. National Committee for Crystallography (USNC/Cr) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is providing an online workshop series for students and researchers on the use, development, and maintenance of crystallographic and structural databases. Encompassing macromolecular, small molecule, and powder diffraction information, the series will include training options for some database resources including the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD).
Jeff Lengyel, Materials Scientist at CCDC
There will be 2 sessions on a two-day workshop. We encourage all participants to register for both sessions (days).
Title: Working with the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD): searching, analyzing
Dates: Tuesday 12th April
Time: 11:00 – 2:00 PM ET / 8:00 – 11:00 AM PT
Title: Depositing data using Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) tools
Dates: Wednesday 13th April
Time: 11:00 – 2:00 PM ET / 8:00 – 11:00 AM PT
The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) is the curator of the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), the world’s largest repository of fully curated organic and organometallic experimental crystal structures. The large amount of reliable data makes the CSD an excellent place to gather insights into chemical and structural space.
Learning Objectives
-
Participants will explore how the CCDC’s tools allow users to search for structures of interest.
-
Participants will learn how to generate knowledge from statistical trends.
-
Participants will understand how to submit their own data to the database.
Take Away Skills
-
Ability to search structures and statistical trends within the database
-
Ability to submit their own data to the database
*Note: Graphical user interfaces and Python-based scripting will both be demonstrated.
