ConQuest, Mogul and the features of Mercury only available to registered CSD System subscribers are designed only to operate on machines that have been individually registered with the CCDC.
There are three categories of Licence.
There are five ways in which you can register copies of ConQuest or Mogul, or the advanced features of Mercury:
Licences returnable: All
This is the preferred method of registration.
When either ConQuest or Mogul is started for the first time, or a registered feature of Mercury is used for the first time on a particular machine, a popup like the one shown below (for ConQuest) is produced:

To register a normal licence online simply fill in your site number and confirmation code (these are provided in a letter accompanying your April 2004 release) and press the 'Register Online' button. If there is an error in either the site number or the confirmation code or an inconsistency between the two a popup like the one shown below is produced:

Once you have correctly entered your site number and confirmation code and selected the 'Register Online' button the popup will change to the one show below:

After a short time, if you have normal licences available for the platform on which you are registering, the popup will change again to the one shown below:

Press the 'Click Here to Continue' button to start ConQuest (or Mogul, or registered Mercury features).
If you do not have normal licences available for the platform on which you are registering the two popups shown below will be displayed:

The second popup lists the options available to you if you wish to register ConQuest, Mogul or registered Mercury features on your machine.
You may find that the second and third items in the list are greyed out. This means that you have no licences of those types available for the platform on which you are registering.
Selecting the extra licences option and clicking on 'OK' will display the following popup:

Selecting 'OK' will close this popup and return you to the previous one.
Selecting the replacement licences option and clicking on 'OK' will display this popup:

If the installation you are attempting to register meets the criteria listed then click on 'OK'. This will return you to the main registration popup which will attempt to reconnect to the CCDC server to obtain the required replacement licence. If the installation does not meet the criteria listed then select 'Cancel' to return to the previous popup.
Selecting the evaluation licence option and clicking 'OK' will display the popup shown below:

To install an evaluation licence click on 'OK' and registration will proceed as described above for a replacement licence. Selecting 'Cancel' will return to the previous popup.
If online registration fails:
The machine on which you are registering may not be able to locate the licence server machine. This could be because your machine is not connected to the Internet or the CCDC licence server machine is offline for some reason. In either case, you will see a popup similar to the one shown below:

If this happens you can either:
Licences returnable: Normal only
If you are unable to register online the preferred method of registration is via the automated email address licence@ccdc.cam.ac.uk.
To register offline using the automated email address, select the 'Register Offline' button on the registration popup. This will expand the popup like this:

The site number, confirmation code and serial number, displayed towards the top of the new part of the popup (and highlighted in blue above) should be sent to licence@ccdc.cam.ac.uk. The popup is designed so that copy and paste can be used to transfer the information to an email. So, for example, under Windows you can use CTRL-C to copy the information to the clip board and CTRL-V to paste it into your email.
If you have several machines that require validation codes you can put the serial numbers for these additional machines in the same email message.
When the email message is received, it is automatically parsed to extract the required information. This information is then used to attempt to register the installation(s). If registration is successful an email message will be returned to you containing the validation code(s). These should be entered into the boxes at the bottom of the popup shown above. If you make a mistake when typing your validation code a warning popup will be displayed. To avoid this problem you can copy and paste the validation code from your email into any of the five fields in the popup.
Licences returnable: All
If you are having problems with the automated email address or need an evaluation or replacement licence and cannot register online, then use the email address In addition to the information required for the automated licence email (site code, confirmation code and serial number) please include a short explanation of what is required, e.g. 'Evaluation licence request'. As email to this address is processed manually the time taken to reply will depend on the time in the UK when the email is received.
Licences returnable: All
If you wish to register by telephone the number is given on the offline registration popup as shown above. This number is 01223 336394 in the UK. Users outside the UK should enter their international prefix followed by 44 1223 336394. If no one is able to take your call you can leave all your details via voice mail and someone will get back to you as soon as they are able.
Licences returnable: All
