WebCSD - the on-line portal to the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD)

WebCSD provides easy and convenient access to the wealth of structural knowledge contained in the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD).

Institutions with site-wide CSD System access can search the full database from any computer at their site using just a standard web-browser, and without the need to install or register any software locally. This ease of access makes the online version of the CSD the ideal platform for introducing 3D structural information into classroom and computational teaching laboratories. Academic organisations with a limited licence can access WebCSD by registering a username and password for each seat of the CSD they have purchased (up to a maximum of 6 for an unlimited licence). This can be done through our user portal.

In addition to full text and numeric searching, WebCSD allows 2D chemical substructure queries to be defined using an embedded sketcher - thus allowing rapid retrieval of structures of interest. Additionally, a complementary 2D structure-based search option will locate those CSD entries having the highest molecular similarity to a drawn query molecule. This allows non-expert users to locate specific structures of interest, and their analogues, without having to learn the subtleties of substructure searching.

Frequent data updates provide access to the very latest archived CSD structures. In addition, WebCSD users will gain early access to newly published structures. Flagged as 'structure pending' such entries are added to WebCSD on a continual basis as they are published or deposited as Private Communications and evolve into full CSD entries following scientific processing.
